FALCONERY PROGRAMS 2010 Amarelos Farm Vaiamonte
“Falconery Experience” – Walking with Falcons through Esquerdos Estate
This program will enable you to become acquainted with Esquerdos Estate in close contact with the falcons and Nature. Accompanied by an experienced Falconry instructor, take a drive through the Estate, during which you will be invited for short walks and to fly the falcons off your own wrist in full safety conditions. An unique and very exclusive experience. The program time table is shown bellow, being all participants picked up at Amarelos Farm. There, fundamental information on birds of prey, their handling, taming techniques, Falconry and flight accessories, will be taught. Leaving in 4X4 vehicles to the fields. The game reserve is 500 ha (1250Acres). The landscape is characterized by woods of Cork Trees and Oaks on a wavy relief, where you can notice some granite mounds, the free-grazing herds of sheep and the famous breed of Alentejo’s pigs. The programme enables you to become familiarized with the region’s cattle razing, manufacturing and tasting of sheep’s cheese. The dam calls for a resting break, a snack, while flying and feeding the Falcons by your own hand! Recommended: countryside adequate clothing and shoes, binoculars a photo or video camera. Falconry Exhibitions for groups. Mysterious figures on our imagination, birds of prey, are universal symbols for strength, rapidity and bravery. Their extraordinary visual acuity, agility and lightning reflexes, turn these bird’s flying exercises, into spectacular events! A dip in History reviving an almost extinct tradition, today recovered with genius and presented through a very amusing and interesting show, on which the spectators are invited to interact with the birds, learning in a simple and appealing way, a set of ideas about these super-predators, their biology and conservation status. Live on an open sky, you can enjoy demonstrations of the birds working skills, flying in absolute freedom, but for the Falconer’s commands. These shows will be commented (Portuguese/English/French/Spanish) and the spectators will fully enjoy their flying evolutions, their attacking postures and their predatorily behaviour over artificial prey used for this purpose. Falconry exhibitions may be performed near the “Club House”, or at the game reserve of Esquerdos Estate, 5 minutes from the Amarelos Farm. These exhibitions are especially dedicated to groups of Amarelos Farm’s hosts, they have a fixed cost, and require previous booking and confirmation. Duration: 2 Hours Price: 275,00 € + Tva
Program of Environmental Education
To see the Falcons flying freely and observe their acrobatics under an open blue sky, is indeed a rare and exquisitely beautiful sight. A very enjoyable and amusing program for people of all ages, during which one can appreciate the different tamed species flying in absolute freedom and understanding their role on the food chain and ecosystem balance. This program is especially dedicated to children or family groups. From History to Biology, through Environmental conservation, acknowledgement of endangered species. This Falconry program is truly a living lesson that will motivate the learning interest of the participants, awakening a conservation conscience and developing a particular care regarding Environmental maintenance. Training Initiation Courses to Falconry
Dedicated to everyone willing to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge on Falconry, a true initiation on this activity.
These Training Periods, are dedicated to a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 10, according to a predefined schedule and don’t need previous booking. Learning will be performed on our premises and in special game reserves, with indoors theoretical classes and practical exercises in the fields. Each Training Initiation lasts 2 days, totalling 12 training hours. Support documentation and an attending certificate will be given to each of the participants.

Hunting Programs
During Fall – Winter CAÇAMONTE organizes Falconry hunting parties to be held in the tourist and game reservation of Monforte’s council, or in other private game reserves in Portalegre’s district. During these hunting parties we only allow our falconry experts and hunting outfit composed by high-flight and low-flight birds, targeting mainly partridge, rabbits and hare. Through previous inscriptions we allow only a very limited number of participants in these programs, who will truly enjoy the real falconry, on some of the best hunting grounds of Alentejo.
Admission of the participants on the Hunting Parties, requires a previous inscription and the payment of a participation fee. The participants should meet with a CAÇAMONTE representative, at an established time and place. The CAÇAMONTE employee will accompany them during all hunting party. The inscription fee includes lunch and transportation on 4X4 vehicles. Useful: Field adapted clothing, binoculars, photo or video camera.
